Sister - I got you!
Let me show you the first steps you need to take as you begin your walk with Jesus. Allow me the honor of walking with you and pouring into you as you discover the aspects of faith that will build a solid foundation. Jesus said in Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV), “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Following Jesus is the way to build your life and your faith on that solid foundation. The foundation that will help you weather all of life’s storms.
If you want that strong foundation, then you need this Bible study! Join me for this 4-week FREE course on how to build your life on that foundation by following Jesus.

If you have been following along on our Creating a Daily Quiet Time series, then you have picked the best time, the best location, and are now ready to do this thing! But once you get there at that time, what exactly are you supposed to do? How do you actually have a Quiet Time?
If you still need help with choosing the best time for your daily devotion, you can find help here in our first blog post in the series.
Check out our second blog post in the series on choosing a location for your devotional if you need help with that.
That is where establishing a routine for your Quiet Time comes in. Creating a rhythm that you can turn to day in and day out. Having a rhythm to your time with God will not only bring you peace, freeing you form having to decide what to do next, but the rhythm helps cement the habit into your daily life as well.
Time spent alone with God is meant for fellowship with Him. You want to hear from Him and talk to Him. Thus, you need time in prayer and reading the Bible.
I begin my Quiet Time by asking the Holy Spirit to come and meet with me. I spend some time quietly letting all the noise in my head turn off and focusing my breathing and stilling my body. Then, I journal about any specific prayer requests that I have and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to me as I read His Word. Next, I read the chapters for the day that we are reading in our Bible in a Year Challenge. Some of you may be appalled at this, others may love the practice, but I write in my Bible. Actually, I make notes all over it and put in sticky notes. As I am reading, I write about what God is saying to me through His Word. If I hear a promise from Him, I will even record it in the margin with a date and time. Lastly, I go back to my journal, and I write about what God has said. I thank Him for meeting with me, and I write out any other prayers that have come to mind as I read. This process can take from 20 minutes to 90 minutes, depending on how much time I take for each step.
Asking God to meet with you, i.e. welcoming Him in,
Prayer,
Reading Scripture,
Thanking God for being with you and speaking to you, and
Journaling about what He says as a reminder for the future. (Though this last one is optional, I highly recommend it.)
Using my routine as an example to spark your thought process, write out a plan for how you will structure your Quiet Time each day. Then, tomorrow, try it out!
No. I am not a morning person, and it is a true sacrifice to God from me when I get up on weekdays to spend time with Him, and I believe He honors that sacrifice. However, on the weekends, I usually just get up before the rest of the family. Regardless, I make it a point to spend time with God in the first hour of my day.
Not usually, but sometimes. I find it hard to hear God's still, small voice if there is any noise around me, so I like it quiet. That is also why I my preferred term for this daily time with God a quiet time. But if my brain is not in a worshipful place, I will put on worship music as I clear my focus and shift it to my Lord. I then turn it off or I turn down the volume as I begin to pray.
The denominational tradition in which I was raised did not talk much about speaking in tongues or about prayer languages. Therefore, that is something that I have been learning more about as God is growing me and teaching me about aspects of Himself outside of the tradition I was taught. Many denominations have conflicting beliefs around this topic, and I am working through those right now with the Holy Spirit's guidance. As this is not a foundational doctrine that determines salvation (remember, those foundations are who Jesus is, and what is required for salvation), it is an area that I believe sisters in Christ can discuss and learn from each other without necessarily agreeing. If you want to read more about what the Bible says on this topic, look at 1 Corinthians 14:1-25. Here Paul talks about speaking in tongues during worship services, as well as praying privately in a prayer language.
Do you have a question I have not addressed here? We would love to hear from you. Where are you on this journey?
Lastly, our fourth blog post dives into how to create a habit that sticks!
